The Map Project was one in a string of projects called the 10x10 series. Over 10 weeks leading up to the release of The Sketchbook Project 2013, one new project was released every Wednesday morning. This projects varied in format and medium, ranging from swaps and exchanges of writing and art, instructions to fill a glass jar with 'stories,' or a prompt to write a letter to your childhood home. In The Map Project, participants were asked to create a map of any kind, however they interpreted that instruction. The only rule was that every map must fold down to 4"x6" no matter how large it would be when expanded. Participation was limited to 1000 people from anywhere in the world.

The results were incredible. We received handmade maps from around the world using many different mediums and methods, maps that described physical routes, imagined journeys, and totally fantastical cartographic expressions. These maps, along with the submissions from our other projects, including the entire Sketchbook Project collection, are on view at Brooklyn Art Library, our storefront space in Brooklyn, New York. Art House continually releases new projects to engage and inspire it's community.
